Detroit Tigers Restore The Roar? Cron, Schoop Ready To Help Detroit Win Now
The Detroit Tigers are on the prowl! Okay, we get it, it’s only three games. However, for a team that had a win total set at 20 by many Vegas sportsbooks and +8000 (or higher) odds to win the AL Central, this team is well worth the risk.
Tigers Central surprise?
As mentioned a few weeks ago, the Tigers were one of three longshot teams we had an eye on.
The additions of CJ Cron, Austin Romine, and Jonathan Schoop give Miguel Cabrera some threats in the lineup behind him.
Already Cron and Schoop have been tearing the cover off the ball. Both were instrumental in the Tigers series road win against the Cincinnati Reds to start the season.
Cron, who is off to a .364 avg., hit his second home run of the 2020 season on Sunday. That 9th inning bomb turned out to be the game-winner.
Schoop is hitting .308, and had a three-hit performance in Detroit come from behind 6-4 win on Saturday.
Once again, it’s just three games, but no matter what the end result, Detroit’s future is bright.
And who knows, with a 60-game schedule and new MLB playoff rules, dare I say this team is playoff bound?
Maybe, maybe not. Either way, if this team stays healthy, they will be a squad that no one wants to face down the road.
After all, when experts predict you to be the worst team in the league, the pressure is off. However, the chip on their shoulder isn’t.
One thing we do know about sports. Winning breeds confidence, and right now, CJ Cron believes that this Tigers line up can play with anyone.
“That’s the best three pitchers we will face in succession all year long,” said first baseman C.J. Cron. “They had our number when it came to strikeouts but at the end of the day, we took two of three against arguably the best staff we will face all year.”
“That’s a big confidence boost going back home knowing we can play with anyone.”
Royals next
The Tigers will look to keep up their winning ways as they head home for a stretch that will see them play 16 of their next 20 at home.
The homestand begins with a four-game series against the Royals. After KC, the Reds, and Cardinals will visit Comerica Park.
