Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest returns to Coney Island
The Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest will return to Coney Island this weekend for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic according to Patch. While that may not sound like a big deal, for the eaters in this year’s contest – it is. The atmosphere along with cheering fans means a lot to the competitors, especially reigning champion Joey Chestnut.
Joey Chestnut is a living legend. When it comes to competitive eating, not many can compete with the man nicknamed “Jaws.” Chestnut has won 13 of the last 14 hot dog eating events and is currently riding a five-game winning streak at Nathan’s Coney Island.
Last year Chestnut set a record with 75 hot dogs and buns eaten in 10 minutes – which is why he is once again the heavy favorite in 2021. 75 dogs? I don’t think I have eaten 75 hot dogs in the last 5 years!
