Super Bowl Date Moving? Petition To Move Super Bowl Sunday Game To Saturday Gaining Steam
For 55 years the biggest NFL game of the season has been known as Super Bowl Sunday. That could be about to change – that is if the NFL is listening to their fan base.
Super Bowl change on the horizon?
Is the big game going to move from Sunday to Saturday in the near future? According to a CBS Sports report, it seems tons of fans wouldn’t mind. In fact, they would welcome it.
High school student Frank Ruggeri, 18, of Palm Bay, Fla. started an online petition to move Super Bowl Sunday to Saturday, and it has quickly gained tens of thousands of signatures.
While the big game has been traditionally on a Sunday since its conception, many fans believe that moving it to Saturday would mean bigger parties, more viewership and less having to worry about heading to work the next day. It is a fact that the day known to pigskin fans across the US as “Super Bowl Monday” is one of the least productive workdays of the year.
“It’s really, really important to me because 17.2 million people miss work,” Ruggeri said during a TV appearance. “That’s 44 billion dollars less of productivity.”
Ruggeri does make a good point. The Monday after the game is statistically one of the worst days for production nationwide. If the NFL won’t change the date of the big game, how about making the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday. I would vote for that!
Personally, we believe that moving the game to Saturday sounds like a smart move. That, or either start the game at 4:30 ET instead of 6:30.
