Watch: University of Nebraska President’s Comments Spark Big Ten Football Rumors
A lot of Big Ten fans are anxiously awaiting any news regarding the start of the 2020 college football season. Based on the new Big Ten football rumors, there could be a major announcement coming on Tuesday night. The speculation arrives based on comments captured from University of Nebraska President Ted Carter earlier in the day.
University of Nebraska President caught on hot mic
According to a KETV report, University of Nebraska President Ted Carter was at the podium on Tuesday ahead of a news conference making small talk with Bob Hinson, director of the National Strategic Research Institute. Sources overheard Carter on a hot mic saying, “We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight.”
Later, reporters asked Carter about his comments. He claimed he was talking about how there’s a lot of work going on in the right direction to get things going. Carter said he was hopeful there would be a resolution to begin the season soon.
The comments arrive as the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 have all started playing college football games. The Big Ten and the Pac-12 were the two major conferences that had opted to postpone the start of their football season. At one time, rumors indicated the Big Ten might aim for a start in November, or possibly in early 2021.
A video (via We Are Iowa Local News 5 ABC) has since arrived online which shows Carter at the podium with a mask on as he makes the comments.
Deb Fiddelke, chief communication and marketing officer for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln commented on the potential announcement with a statement she released.
“When there is any news to share or confirm regarding any Big Ten board decision, it will be announced by the Big Ten. Chancellor Green and AD Moos will comment at that time,” Fiddelke said in her statement to the media.
The latest rumors arrive after U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that he spoke with the Big Ten about getting the season started.
Huskers players filed lawsuit against Big Ten
SportsOddsDigest previously presented an article regarding a lawsuit that eight Nebraska football players had brought against the Big Ten Conference. One major aim was to get the Big Ten to reverse their decision on postponing the 2020 season.
Should an announcement arrive Tuesday evening indicating a start for the season, it would seem the lawsuit might be dismissed.
