Calvin Ridley Suspended: How Long Will The Falcons WR Miss For Wagering On NFL Games?
Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the 2022 NFL season. The Falcons wideout is coming off of a year that had seen him step away from the team after five games due to mental health reasons. Now his return to the gridiron has been extended, but not for the same issue.
Calvin Ridley Suspended
MLB star Pete Rose paid a high price for wagering on baseball. The highest price actually. Rose was suspended from the game he loved and dominated for life following allegations that he was wagering on games.
Will the same happen to Calvin Ridley? CBS Sports indicates that the NFL announced Monday that the 27-year-old Ridley has been suspended indefinitely — at least through the 2022 season — for betting on NFL games during his absence from football last season.
Mike Garafolo indicates that Ridley wagered on games, including the Falcons. The NFL on the other hand is saying that even though Ridley wagered on his own team, “games were not compromised in any way.”
“A league investigation uncovered no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised in any way. Nor was there evidence suggesting any awareness by coaches, staff, teammates, or other players of his betting activity.”
Ridley was quiet on the subject until recently when he took to Twitter – however, his Tweet seemed more like a plea to say he didn’t have a gambling problem.
Ridley will be able to apply for NFL reinstatement on Feb. 15, 2023.
