Detroit Lions Isiah Pacheco Press Conference Shows He’s A Dan Campbell Type Guy (Video)
The Detroit Lions shocked many fans this offseason when they dealt fan-favorite running back David Montgomery. But instead of leaving the backfield cupboard bare, Detroit quickly reloaded by bringing in former Kansas City Chiefs spark plug Isiah Pacheco, and judging by his introductory press conference, the Lions may have just added the human equivalent of a double shot of espresso.
Isiah Pacheco: First impression has fans excited
At 27 years old, Pacheco arrived in Detroit with the exact type of fire that screams “Dan Campbell player.” In fact, during his first phone call with head coach Dan Campbell, Pacheco sounded less like a guy negotiating a contract and more like a linebacker sprinting out of the tunnel on opening day.
Pacheco even re-enacted the conversation for reporters—and let’s just say it wasn’t exactly PG-rated.
“I was screaming on the phone, ‘Ahhhhh, let’s freaking go! I’m ready to go! Put me in,’” Pacheco said with a grin.
Campbell fired right back: “Oh yeah, Pacheco? What number you going with? You rolling with 10?”
Pacheco’s answer? “You’re damn right! Let’s go! I’m on my way!”
If that sounds like two guys yelling at each other in a weight room instead of a contract call… well, that’s pretty much the Lions’ brand these days.
And the timing of the signing couldn’t be more interesting. Detroit moved Montgomery in a trade that opened up cap flexibility, and the front office wasted no time filling the void by landing Pacheco. For a team that prides itself on toughness and energy, Pacheco fits the mold about as perfectly as a Honolulu blue helmet.
Of course, the former Chiefs running back isn’t just bringing personality to Detroit—he’s bringing championship pedigree too.
When asked about what he hopes to accomplish in Detroit, the former Rutgers star made it clear that he’s not satisfied with what he’s already done.
“I’m a two-time champ,” Pacheco said. “But I’m not satisfied. That’s something I’m not satisfied with. I’m more hungry than I’ve ever been, and I’m ready to get to work.”
If that hunger translates onto the field the way it came across at the podium, Lions fans might want to buckle up. Because between Campbell’s motor-city mentality and Pacheco’s caffeine-level energy, Detroit’s backfield just got a whole lot louder—and possibly a whole lot more dangerous.
And if the introductory press conference was any indication, the Lions didn’t just sign a running back. They signed a guy who’s already ready to run through a wall, bite some kneecaps, and hopefully be part of Detroit history in contributing to the team’s first-ever Super Bowl title.
