MLB 2020 Season Will Happen As Players, Owners Close In On Deal – July 4 Opening Day Target (Report)
It won’t be the same, but it looks like MLB will have an 82-game season this summer!
Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING is set in stone, however, reports are surfacing that the players and owners are close to striking a deal that will have MLB returning as soon as two weeks for spring training and a season that could begin sometime around the 4th of July holiday – or sooner.
MLB Network and baseball insider Jon Heyman tweeted out that he is “hearing more optimism on both sides now although MLB official proposal hasn’t been quite made yet.”
Besides the fact that Heyman is one of the best in the business at breaking MLB news, another reason to believe a deal would happen is the public demand – and their ability to turn on the sport very quickly.
Let’s be honest. If MLB cancels the season over money issues, they won’t have a warm reception next spring, that’s for sure. And without fans, any league will not stand the test of time.
Fans already jumped all over Rays pitcher Blake Snell after he went live online complaining about not coming back in 2020 unless he is getting 100-percent of his salary.
The average fans have no sympathy for an MLB player who is expected to make $7 million per season and only receives $4.5 or $5 million. That’s just a fact.
So if this does all boil down to money, the league will not be held in good graces for many years to come – that you can bet on.
As for a starting date, owners still believe that a July 4 (or close to) date is still possible. The owners first targeted the 4th of July holiday as Opening Day back on May 11.
An answer on if the season will move forward is expected this upcoming week and could be known as early as Tuesday.
