NFL MVP Odds 2020: Patrick Mahomes favored, but the smart money is Matt Stafford, Russell Wilson
Many sportsbooks released their odds to win the 2020 NFL MVP Award this week. To no one’s surprise, Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes and Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson were right at the top of that list – however, the smart money may be on two other quarterbacks.
Matt Stafford overlooked?
The Detroit Lions were off to a great start in 2019 – until the unthinkable happened. QB Matt Stafford suffered a season ending injury and the Lions dreams of an NFC North title went with him.
Stafford was thought of as the NFL MVP through the first half of the season in 2019 by many NFL experts, and for good reason. Through 8 games, Stafford passed for 19 touchdowns, 2,499 yards and the Lions were playing great football.
Stafford missed the final 8 games of the year and the Lions weren’t even close to the same team.
If the former Georgia Bulldogs star is healthy in 2020, which he reportedly is, he could be poised for a monster season.
Russell Wilson overdue?
The definition of an MVP is how that player impacted his team and the league. That being said, how Russell Wilson has never won it before is hard to fathom.
Wilson has been the straw that stirs the drink on offense for Seattle for years. He has a Super Bowl ring, many Pro-Bowl nominations, yet Wilson has never been named the league MVP.
2020 could be his breakout year – in terms of claiming the league MVP that is.
These two guys are well worth the risk. Why? They have many weapons surrounding them, they are very talented, and the odds on them look great!
Stafford is currently listed at 35/1 or +3500, while Wilson is 12/1.
How can they both be listed behind Dallas’ Dak Prescott? That in itself is mind-blowing to me.
