NFL officially cancels International games in London, Mexico City for 2020 season
You knew this was going to happen. The NFL will not bring its games to London or Mexico this year due to the fears of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.
NFL guru Adam Schefter tweeted out the official statement from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The basis of the statement is simple. Until a vaccine or some sort of compromise can be reached or until we find a way to deal with COVID-19, it is best not to have players travel to other countries for an NFL game.
“After considerable analysis, we believe the decision to play all our games domestically this season is the right one for our players, our clubs, and all our fans in the US, Mexico and UK,” NFL exec Christopher Halpin said.
“We greatly appreciate the support of our governmental and stadium partners in Mexico and the United Kingdom, who all agree with this decision, and we look forward to returning for games in both countries in the 2021 season.”
While this news may not sit well with NFL fans in the UK, it will for NFL fans, especially in Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville Jaguars had been set to play consecutive games in London in 2020. The Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins were also scheduled to make the trip across the pond.
The Arizona Cardinals were one of the teams announced to be heading to the game in Mexico City at Estadio Azteca. While they did not know their opponent, they now know that they will not be making the trip.
