USFL Draft 2022 Results: Former Michigan QB Shea Patterson Selected No. 1 Overall, XFL Star Jordan Ta’amu Second

Are you ready for some football, USFL style? The rebirth of the former league is coming this April. With MLB players still holding out for, well, we don’t exactly know anymore, the USFL could very well dominate the spring sports scene.

According to FOX Sports, the 35-round inaugural USFL draft is a two-day event taking place in Birmingham, Alabama. Day 1 was on Tuesday, with 101 players selected across 12 rounds.

USFL Draft 2022 – Shea Patterson No. 1

The quarterbacks were on the clock first Tuesday night at the USFL draft. With some of the big names being selected, the new league has a great chance of succeeding.

The Michigan Panthers were first on the clock and they selected former Ole Miss and Michigan Wolverines star, Shea Patterson. Patterson played two seasons at Ole Miss before transferring to Michigan for the 2018 season. A former five-star recruit, Patterson passed for over 8,800 yards and 68 touchdowns in his NCAA career.

Selected second overall was another former Ole Miss QB Jordan Ta’amu.

In his two seasons at Ole Miss, Jordan Ta’amu passed for 5,600 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also went on to become a fan favorite with the XFL’s St. Louis BattleHawks.

After the XFL closed down due to COVID19, Ta’amu had brief stints in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders, and Carolina Panthers.

Both of these kids have plenty left in the tank. Who knows, this may be a launching pad for them and several others who still aspire to play in the NFL.
