Aaron Rodgers Trade: Two First Round Picks In Return Could Have Packers QB Taking Over For Tom Brady In Tampa
Is an Aaron Rodgers trade on the horizon? As Super Bowl 56 draws near, speculation and trade rumors are gaining steam every day of a possible Rodgers deal. Packers fans may find it hard to imagine No. 12 in a different uniform, however just like Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Brett Favre before him, Rodgers may be finishing his great career on a new squad.
Aaron Rodgers trade to Bucs possible
Aaron Rodgers trade rumors have been a hot topic since the minute Green Bay lost to the 49ers in the NFC divisional playoff round.
Rodgers has been linked to potential trades with the Denver Broncos and the Las Vegas Raiders. Now, thanks to a top radio host Rodgers’ name is being linked to the Buccaneers as well.
The fact that Tom Brady has officially announced his retirement from football and Tampa is loaded with talent, it is almost a certainty that a Rodgers to Tampa deal will be looked at. One very popular radio host not only thinks it will be discussed, but has the possibilty of being a win-win for both sides.
Packers-Bucs proposed deal
According to Heavy.com, Colin Cowherd recently spoke to Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright about Rodgers’ playing future under the assumption that Brady was on his way out.
Cowhers had an interesting take on the subject. He made some very good points and all of them seemed logical.
“I’ll throw this at you, Brady retires … Aaron Rodgers says I want out, so [Packers wide receiver] Davante Adams is out,” Cowherd said. “Aaron agrees to Tampa, Green Bay says we want [Bucs wide receiver] Mike Evans, we’re not losing Davante and getting nobody.”
“Green Bay gets [Bucs pass rusher Jason Pierre Paul], Mike Evans, two firsts [and] up to three [draft picks] if Aaron plays a third year, which has always been something you’ve talked about,” Cowherd continued to Wright. “Two [picks] guaranteed, up to three if he plays a third year. If he retires after two, you get two minimum, even if he retired after [just one] year.”
This deal is almost like the trade struck between the Lions and Rams last season. LA got the QB they wanted in Matt Stafford, while the Lions recieved not only Jared Goff, but LA’s first round draft picks over the next two seasons.
The only issue for Tampa Bay is that Jason Pierre-Paul will be a free agent in 2022. So a possible sign and trade or agreement would have to be worked out to make this deal happen.
A deal without JPP is very possible too depending on which path the Packers are trending towards. Let’s be honest, if Rodgers and Adams leave, this team will be struggling just to win the NFC North, let alone a Super Bowl title. That you can count on.
