Detroit Tigers Next Team Of The Decade? Why Detroit Is Poised To Own The AL Central Starting In 2021

When it comes to gambling, wagering on the big favorite is not always the way to go – especially if you are looking to win a lot for a little. With that in mind, the Detroit Tigers are one of the teams on our radar in terms of future bets.

It wasn’t long ago that the Detroit Tigers boasted a roster that featured big-name players like Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Jhonny Peralta, Prince Fielder, Victor Martinez and many more.

The nice run of seasons from 2006-2016 resulted in 2 World Series appearances, many thrilling moments, but no championship.

While the last two seasons have been dreadful in Motown, the future looks awfully bright.

Future looks strong

In 2018, the Detroit Tigers selected pitcher Casey Mize No. 1 overall. Mize is projected to be a stud in the big leagues and his target date to land in the rotation is 2021. With the possibility of a shortened season this year, don’t be surprised if you seem him in the bigs this summer at some point.

Mize, along with fellow prospects pitchers Matt Manning and Tarkik Skubal could make Detroit’s rotation very strong for years to come.

With young talent in Matthew Boyd, Daniel Norris, and Spencer Turnbull along with veterans Ivan Nova and Jordan Zimmermann, Detroit should be leaps and bounds better in 2020 than they were in 2019.

And if Mize, Manning and Skubal perform at even 50-60-percent of their potential, the Tigers could put together a nice rotation in 2021.

The talent pool is a lot deeper than just the pitchers in the minors for Detroit. Highly recruited players like outfielders Riley Greene and Daz Cameron are also waiting to get the call.

Like Mize, Greene has a ton of hype behind him. He may only be 19, but Greene brings a ton of potential to the table.

Greene was the No. 1 ranked High School player in Florida in 2018 and the No. 3 player in the US. As put by every scout in America – “The kid can flat out hit!”

Along with Jacoby Jones and Christin Stewart, Greene and Cameron could round out a strong and youthful outfield.

Tigers select No. 1 again in 2020

If all of those potential players named above don’t get you excited about the future, how about Spencer Torkelson?

If you haven’t heard of Torkelson, start looking him up because he is going to be a Tiger very soon.

Torkelson made a splash at Arizona State right from his freshman year. The slugging first baseman hit 25 home runs and batted .320 in 2018 for the Sun Devils – all at the tender age of 18.

Torkelson went on to play well in 2019 and is on almost every MLB Mock Draft experts board to be selected No. 1 overall by the Tigers this June.

Will he be Miggy’s replacement a few years down the road? Tigers fans hope so.

Sure they may not make too much noise in 2020, if there is a season that is but don’t sleep on these Tigers. They are not far off from having a solid OF, strong young pitching staff, and that mixed with solid veterans could be just what this team needs to restore the roar in Motown.
