Emmanuel Clase suspended: Indians centerpiece in Corey Kluber trade to miss 80-games due to failed drug test
Indians fans weren’t happy when they announced that they were trading star pitcher Corey Kluber to the Texas Rangers for closer Emmanuel Clase.
Now the trade has taken an even worse turn as it seems Clase won’t be around for the 2020 season.
MLB Insider Jon Heyman tweeted out on Friday afternoon that Clase has been suspended 80 games under Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Agreement.
“The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Cleveland Indians pitcher Emmanuel Clase has received an 80-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.”
The suspension for Clase will begin when the 2020 season officially gets underway – which means at the rate it is going, Clase may miss the entire season.
Last season Clase appeared in 21 games for the Rangers out of the pen.
While he has great potential, the fireballer who often tips the radar at 96 m.p.h. or more is definitely getting off on the wrong foot in C-Town.
The 22-year old Clase was dealt to the Indians along with Delino DeShields in the trade that sent long-time Indians ace Corey Kluber to the Rangers.
Right now every Indians fan wished he could undue that transaction.
