Michigan vs. Ohio State 2020: Opening Game Odds Have Buckeyes Listed As Huge Favorites Against Rival Wolverines
The Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines are going in two different directions in 2020. The Buckeyes are eyeing a possible National Championship run. On the other hand, the Wolverines season will come to a merciful end after this Saturday.
Ohio State favored by how many?
Ohio State is favored to beat the Wolverines next weekend. That is no surprise. What is shocking is the number.
ESPN indicates that OSU has been installed as a 30-point favorite over Michigan, the largest point spread in the rivalry since 1978.
Las Vegas sportsbook Circa Sports opened the Buckeyes at -30 versus Michigan on Sunday afternoon. The previous largest spread in the series came in 2014, when the Buckeyes were 21-point favorites over the Wolverines. Michigan has never been more than a 14-point favorite over the Buckeyes.
30 points? Mama-Mia! Sure, the Wolverines have been stumbling, but that really seems like a huge number. This series has been full of upsets and it would make Michigan’s season if they could stop the heavily favored Buckeyes from marching on to the college football playoffs. However, that will be a tall task.
Could “The Game” be postponed?
The Buckeyes, who are a perfect 5-0 will host the 2-4 Wolverines on Saturday, December 12 at high noon from the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio. However, with both programs battling COVID-19 outbreaks, there are concerns that this huge rivalry game could be nixed.
The Wolverines were forced to stop all football activities last week. That in turn lead Michigan to cancel their game against Maryland after reporting that several players at least tested positive for COVID-19.
Ohio State, who was missing 23 players and their head coach Ryan Day last week still managed to pound Michigan State 52-12.
The Buckeyes have owned the Wolverines of late. Ohio State has won 8 of the last 9 meetings.
