MLB 2023 Win Totals: Over/Under Totals For Each Team, Three Bet Totals You Can Take To The Bank

Opening Day of the MLB 2023 season is just over two weeks away, so it is time to look into those future wagers. You know, it happens every year. A few MLB teams will exceed expectations while several favorites will disappoint. Which teams will surprise and which will underachieve this upcoming season? We think we have the answers!

Go Get ’em Tigers

Let’s start with the dogs. One team that jumps out at us right away is the Detroit Tigers. I have them projected to win just north of 80 games, (between 77-81 to be precise) so when I see Vegas sportsbooks setting Detroit’s win total number at 67.5, I got very intrigued – and here is why.

Detroit didn’t sign any big named free agents, but they have some old faces that should give this team a huge boost in 2023.

A healthy Austin Meadows and the return of Spencer Turnbull will be key in Detroit’s drive to win more than 67 games this season. I am also expecting bigger and better seasons from Javier Báez, Jonathan Schoop, RIley Greene, and Spencer Torkelson.

Detroit’s Javier Baez makes a great play at the WBC.

Greene has the look of a superstar. This kid is going to be special for years to come in Detroit. Now, if Spencer Torkelson can live up to even 50 percent of the hype he was receiving when he was selected by the Tigers out of Arizona State, Detroit just could be that team that surprises many in 2023. Last year at this time no one was thinking Cleveland would come within 3 outs of advancing to the ALCS, yet there they were!

For me, the key out of all the aforementioned names above for Detroit to hit the OVER total is Austin Meadows. This kid is Detroit’s diamond in the rough that many fans may not know about.

In 2019 Meadows hit 33 home runs and drove in 89 for the Rays. He again was in full beast mode in 2021 when he smashed 27 home runs and collected 106 RBI. Last season was his first in Detroit and he only suited up for 36 games. If Meadows is healthy in 2023, he will add some much-needed punch to go along with Baez, Schoop, Green, and Torkelson – and Detroit will playing meaningful baseball well into August and September.

Austin Meadows will be a key figure for the Tigers in 2023.

MLB 2023: Orioles up, Dodgers down

Two other picks we are loving early on are the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers – but for different reasons.

Last season, the Orioles finished with 83 wins. While they may have surprised many, it seems sportsbooks believe that Baltimore will take a step backward this season. We don’t. With some nice punch in their lineup including Anthony Santander, Ryan Mountcastle, and lead-off hitter Cedric Mullins, the Birds will be a pesky bunch once again. Their win total is set at 76.5 at Bet MGM, I am loving the OVER total.

Now for the final pick, and my only UNDER selection. The Dodgers have been a force in the NL for the last five-plus seasons. However, the Padres, Mets, Braves and Phillies are all going to be tough as nails in 2023. You can also throw the Giants into the mix as a tough divisional foe.

All of that, plus the departure of slugger Corey Seager last season and Trea Turner departing this past off season this team will be missing some power on offense. Also, with the season-ending injury to Gavin Lux this spring, it will be tough for LA to hit 97+ wins this year.

So, the three take it to the bank O/U win total picks are Detroit OVER 68, Baltimore OVER 76.5, and the Dodgers UNDER 96.5.

Below is a look at the OVER/UNDER totals for each team according to Bet MGM as of March 11, 2023.
