MLB Rumors: Universal DH, 7-Inning Double-Header Rule Returning in 2021?
If you were a fan of the Universal DH, or any other rules that MLB put into place last season you may not like the upcoming news.
Universal DH gone?
What’s old is new again. It seems things will return to normal in Major League Baseball next season – and many fans aren’t happy with that news.
According to The Score, MLB instructed clubs in a memo last week to operate under the assumption that there won’t be a designated hitter in the National League in 2021. The Athletics Ken Rosenthal broke the news on Monday afternoon.
While this word has not been made official, it is looking like things may go back to the way they have been for decades with the pitcher taking his cuts in the National League.
Should the new rules stay in place?
Back in October while on the Dan Patrick Show, Commissioner Rob Manfred said that MLB will return to “status quo” in terms of the extra-inning rule, seven-inning doubleheaders, and universal DH, absent an agreement with the MLBPA.
He did go on to mention that he would like to see some of the newly adopted rules for 2020 to stay. He also is open to expanding the number of teams that make it to the postseason.
Personally, I thought the rule changes were great. 7-inning double headers and universal DH? I am all on board. I didn’t care for starting a runner at 2-nd base in extra inning games, but hey, we can’t have it all!
What do you think MLB fans? Would you like to see the 2020 rule changes stay in the game for good? We would love to hear your thoughts.
