MLB The Show 22 Cover Star Odds: Will MVP Winner Get Video Game Cover?
With the baseball season in the books, fans saw the Atlanta Braves capture another championship. it was also a sensational return for the Los Angeles Shohei Ohtani, who won the MVP Award in the AL after his impressive season. Meanwhile, former MLB The Show cover star Bryce Harper nabbed his second MVP Award in the NL. Will Harper land on his second cover of the baseball video game? With that in mind, we shift our attention towards the video game world with MLB The Show 22 cover star odds.
Past MLB cover stars included Tatis Jr., Baez
San Diego Studio has continued to drop popular simulation baseball video games since 2006 for the various video game systems of the times. The most recently released MLB The Show 21 in April of this year. San Diego Padres star slugger Fernando Tatis Jr. landed the official cover for the game, shown below.
Tatis Jr. made history as the youngest cover star on the game at age 22. The Show 21 edition also made history. It was the first time the game became available on Microsoft’s Xbox consoles including Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s primarily been a Sony PlayStation title for years.
For MLB The Show 20, the cover featured the Chicago Cubs’ shortstop Javy Baez. He just recently made headlines in signing a deal with the Detroit Tigers. Other cover stars featured on the game included the New York Yankees‘ Aaron Judge, Seattle Mariners’ Ken Griffey Jr., Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper, and Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera.
MLB The Show 22 cover star odds favor MVP winner, teammate
With Shohei Ohtani showing his skills as a batter and pitcher this past season, his stats were hard to beat. He hit 46 home runs, had a .257 batting average, and boasted a 3.18 ERA on the mound with 156 strikeouts. His dual-threat skills ultimately earned a starting spot for the All-Star Game and the American League MVP Award in 2021.
It’d be hard to argue against him as the cover star for MLB The Show 22, slated to arrive sometime in Spring 2022. He’s the leader on our early odds for the MLB The Show 23 cover star, ahead of Mike Trout. Surprisingly, his Angeles teammate has never been on a cover during his career despite three MVP Awards of his own.
Also on our list are the Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuna and Freddie Freeman. The latter of these players was a big part of the season and Atlanta’s run to capture the championship. Acuna, while injured, is undeniably a star who continues to rise with each game.
The same can be said for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see Vlad Jr. capture the cover based on his popularity in the game. He put on a show during the Home Run derby against fellow cover star Fernando Tatis Jr. this past year.
Early odds for MLB The Show 23 cover star:
- Shohei Ohtani +150
- Mike Trout +275
- Ronald Acuna +350
- Freddie Freeman +200
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. +250
