New Year’s Day 2022 Bowl Schedule: Odds, TV Schedule, Picks For Outback, Fiesta, Sugar, Rose Bowl Games
College football fans will get to ring in the New Year with a nice selection of games featuring some of the top-ranked teams in all the NCAA. Among them will be several teams that were within reach of the College Football Playoffs including Notre Dame and Ohio State. They’ll now be featured in the New Year’s Day 2022 Bowl Schedule and look to get bragging rights secured with big wins to start the new year off right. Here’s our look at the latest odds, television schedule, and picks in the big games on Saturday.
Fighting Irish vs. Cowboys among featured games
Saturday, January 1, 2022, will mark New Year’s Day and with it we get five great NCAA football matchups. Kicking things off at 12 p.m. Eastern Time, the No. 21 Arkansas Razorbacks will take the field against the Penn State Nittany Lions in Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium. In this close matchup, the Razorbacks are favored by 3.5 points with an over/under points total set at 48.5 for the game.
Two games follow that on the New Year’s Day 2022 Bowl schedule. That’ll include a featured battle in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl at 1 p.m. Eastern Time as #9 Oklahoma State takes on #5 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish lost just once all season. That was back on Oct. 2 to the Cincinnati bearcats, 24-13. We just saw Cincy get run over in their College Football Playoff game against Alabama, leaving many wondering if ND would’ve fared better.
The Cowboys are coming off an unfortunate 21-16 loss in their conference championship game against Baylor. With just two losses on the season, Oklahoma State is a one-point underdog here. The over/under is currently sitting at 45.5 points for the game.
The other 1 p.m. ET game on the slate has the No. 15 Iowa Hawkeyes taking on No. 22 Kentucky Wildcats. This will be the only game of the day that ABC presents.
Buckeyes favored in Rose Bowl
The annual Rose Bowl Game is set for 5 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN. In this one, the No. 6 Buckeyes are taking on No. 11 Utah. Current odds favor the Buckeyes to win this one by four points (-190 money line), with the Utes +160 underdogs. The over/under indicates we may see a lot of scoring here, as it’s set at 64 points currently.
No. 7 Baylor and No. 8 Ole Miss close out the schedule with the Allstate Sugar Bowl on ESPN at 8:45 p.m. Eastern Time. In this game, the Rebels find themselves favored by 1.5 points against a tough defensive squad in the Bears. The over/under is 57.5 points right now, and Baylor is a +100 underdog for those that don’t want the 1.5 insurance.
The game features one of the top quarterbacks as far as the NFL mock drafts go in Ole Miss’ Matt Corral. Some feel he’ll be drafted in the top 10, so this will be a final preview of his skills prior to him going pro.
