NFL Coaches on Hot Seat For Week 4: Falcons’ Quinn, Jets’ Gase Closer to Losing Jobs
The NFL 2020 season is heading into Week 4 with several teams looking sharp, others finding ways to win, and others looking like they have a bit of work to do to turn things around. The latter of these teams include the Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, and Houston Texans, among others. In this report, we look at several NFL coaches on the hot seat with Week 4 games approaching.
Which NFL coaches are on hot seat heading into Week 4?
On a recent Yahoo! Sports & ProFootballTalk podcast, Mike Florio and Peter King spoke about one coach in particular who should be quite worried about getting fired. The Atlanta Falcons’ Dan Quinn is definitely one of the top candidates for a pink slip based on his team’s awful start to the season.
Some wonder how Quinn wasn’t fired during the previous season. In the past two games of this season, the Falcons blew leads of 15 points or more in the fourth quarter. It was a record-setting performance, but not the kind that any head coach wants to be a part of. Basically, if the Falcons don’t turn things around fast, which would be very surprising, Quinn is likely gone.
The New York Jets have also looked beyond capable of putting together a winning effort. Head coach Adam Gase has reportedly lost the respect of his locker room, which has played a big part in his team’s 0-3 start. On Thursday night’s game from the Week 4 schedule, NY takes on the winless Denver Broncos, so it’s possible Gase actually gets a win.
Texans’ O’Brien & Eagles’ Pederson also in trouble?
Then there’s Bill O’Brien, head coach of the Houston Texans. They’ve also been more than disappointing to start the 2020 season, going 0-3. Last year, this was a playoff team with young quarterback Deshaun Watson steadily improving.
However, their offseason move included trading away longtime wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and bringing in running back David Johnson. They also signed left tackle Laremy Tunsil to a huge contract to try to protect Watson, but so far the team’s struggled in that area. Meanwhile, Hopkins has continued to look like the star receiver he is. The 28-year-old leads the NFL with 32 receptions and 356 yards so far this season.
One other coach with eyes on him right now is the Philadelphia Eagles‘ Doug Pederson. He went from Super Bowl-winning coach three seasons ago to guiding his team to an 0-2-1 start so far this campaign. The latest game was a tie to the lowly Cincinnati Bengals. Now the Eagles will try to get their first win but have to play at San Francisco on Sunday night.
Will it be Quinn, Gase, or O’Brien getting fired first, or someone else? Stay tuned as pink slips loom for several NFL head coaches!
