NFL Hall of Fame Game 2025 Odds, Our Pick for Lions vs. Chargers
It may seem hard to believe, but pro football is back, with the NFL Hall of Fame Game 2025 on tonight’s slate! The game is the first of the preseason matchups, typically preceding the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, set for Canton, Ohio, this weekend.
The NFL preseason is typically a time for teams to evaluate players as coaches adjust their rosters and rotations. We don’t expect tonight’s Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Chargers game to deviate a whole lot from that script.
However, there’s still some pride on the line and we have a prediction that fans interested in a wager on this contest should consider.
When and where to watch tonight’s NFL game
The great news for NFL fans is that football is back. Not only that, the Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Chargers is available for most viewers to watch on NBC. In addition, the game is live streaming through NBC’s Peacock platform.
Coverage of this game begins at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. Start time is 8 p.m. Eastern Time, but that may not be the actual kickoff time. Still, we won’t complain that we have some form of football back on our screens!
This is an annual game which adds an extra matchup to two team’s preseason schedules. The rest of the NFL preseason gets started on Thursday, August 7. Their official season starts in September.
The Chargers start their regular season on Friday, September 5 when they’ll host Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Lions visit the NFC North’s Green Bay Packers on Sunday, September 7 to begin their latest campaign.
Odds and best bet to consider for Lions vs. Chargers
The Lions are currently favorites to defeat the Chargers in the NFL Hall of Fame Game. As of this afternoon, the Lions were -1.5 favorites to claim victory.
On the moneyline, Detroit is favored at -135 to win, with the over/under total set at just 33.5 points. Those were the latest numbers at DraftKings, subject to change as we get closer to gametime.
The Chargers are surprisingly the favorites to win the first half of the game at a -0.5 point spread and -155 moneyline, respectively. This could be due to which players they’ll suit up in the first half.
Reportedly, Trey Lance will get the start for the Chargers at quarterback as QB1 Justin Herbert watches. In addition, the team’s 22nd pick, running back Omarion Hampton, and 55th pick, wide receiver Tre Harris, will play.
Keep in mind, this is the preseason so teams don’t always play their starters much at all, if they even do. It’s unlikely we’ll see many of the top-rated Madden NFL players for the Lions or Chargers on the field in this one as coaches don’t want their stars and main players getting hurt.
Even knowing that personnel factor going in, there’s still a side worth considering, just based on who’s coaching.
We’ve seen gutsy head coach Dan Campbell always committed to getting the win, no matter who is on the field for his team.
Our pick is that Detroit likely pulls away in the second half of this game, en route to a preseason win that means more for the team’s pride than anything else. However, there will be much better bets to make when the official season gets here!
Best bet: Detroit Lions ML
