Tigers Prospect Derek Hill Makes Incredible Catch During First Intrasquad Game at Comerica Park – VIDEO
Derek Hill is one of the many young prospects in the Detroit Tigers farm system.
On Wednesday, Hill showed off his skills during Detroit’s first intrasquad matchup as they prepare for the upcoming 60-game upcoming season.
Hill robs Candelario
If there were fans in seats, Derek Hill would have earned a standing ovation for his catch in Detroit’s first live-action of the season.
On a ball smashed to centerfield by Candelario, it looked like Hill wouldn’t have a chance to make the catch.
After getting twisted around, Hill somehow not only got his glove on the ball but managed to make the catch with his bare hand before it hit the ground.
It really was an incredible moment for the 24 year old prospect.
Hill climbing the chart
With a logjammed outfield in Detroit, it will take a lot for Hill to make it to the bigs this season.
The Tigers’ official website has Hill listed as the No. 30 prospect out of the top 100 according to MLB Pipeline.
Hill was expected to start the year with Triple-A Toledo before the shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Now instead of shining in Toldeo, the former first-round selection pick may get a chance with the big club.
Hill is known for playing the outfield at a high-level as he has made several outstanding plays during his career.
When Hill was asked if he had ever dreamed of making plays like this at the big league level he respond “Pretty much every day.”
