NFL MVP Odds 2020: Russell Wilson Moves Past Jackson, Mahomes to Become New Favorite
The Seattle Seahawks picked up a close win on Sunday Night Football, with Russell Wilson the beneficiary of lots of love in terms of his award odds. The six-time Pro Bowler is now odds-on-favorite to win the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award. That means he’s overtaken two other top contenders- the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and the reigning MVP, Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson.
Latest NFL MVP Odds for 2020 show Wilson as new favorite
A successful first two weeks of the new NFL season have seen the Seattle Seahawks off to a 2-0 start. Week 1 was their 38-25 win at Atlanta over Matt Ryan and the Falcons. In one of the NFL’s Week 2 games, Wilson and company held off Cam Newton and the Patriots for a 35-30 win.
With that, Russell Wilson is the talk of the town. He’s thrown 52 of 63 passes for nine touchdowns and 610 yards giving him an 82.5 percent completion rate. His hot start has been enough to propel him to the top of the NFL MVP odds list ahead of LJ8 and Mr. Mahomes.
An ESPN report says that William Hill sportsbooks has Wilson (+320) as the new favorite, followed by Mahomes (+450), and Jackson (+500). The report also mentions that action has been increasing for Wilson, with DraftKings noticing an increase in bets placed for the Seahawks QB.
Surprisingly, Wilson has zero, yes zero, MVP Awards on his resume. He’s actually never had any votes either. This year could see a big change to that.
Here’s a look at what Bovada has for the current NFL MVP odds:
Russell Wilson | +240 |
Lamar Jackson | +500 |
Patrick Mahomes | +500 |
Aaron Rodgers | +700 |
Kyler Murray | +1200 |
Cam Newton | +1800 |
Josh Allen | +1800 |
Dak Prescott | +2000 |
Ben Roethlisberger | +2800 |
Tom Brady | +2800 |
Other rising contenders, Wilson’s next test
Early on, a few other quarterbacks have stood out amongst candidates. While we previously mentioned New England’s Cam Newton for Comeback Player of the Year, he’s moved up a bit on the NFL MVP odds list. So has last year’s No. 1 pick Kyler Murray. Just like the Seahawks, Murray’s Arizona Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start.
Another early contender could be Buffalo’s Josh Allen as he’s got the Bills 2-0 and leading their division. Green Bay is also 2-0 thanks to their two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers. Will he make it three times an MVP? He’s currently fourth on Bovada’s odds.
Of course, the season is young so we’ve still got plenty more games to see play out before we can crown anyone the Most Valuable Player. Next up, Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks will be up against another of the Top 10 MVP contenders, with Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.
That game takes place on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. Eastern Time. Current odds favor Seattle who opened as favored by just 2.5 points. However, we’ve since seen the point spread increase to five in favor of Wilson’s team.
