Yankees Replaced By Cardinals In “Field of Dreams” Game Per Report
Say it ain’t so! In a year that will go down as one of the strangest ever in MLB, and all sports for that matter, we have another change the 2020 MLB schedule.
This change will be a disappointment for fans of the New York Yankees.
Yankees out of Field of Dreams game
The New York Yankees have been reportedly replaced in one of the biggest regular-season games on the schedule – the “Field of Dreams” classic.
While Major League Baseball is still planning the “Field of Dreams” game scheduled for August 13, it will no longer feature the New York Yankees.
As reported by The Score, the St. Louis Cardinals will face the Chicago White Sox on August 13 instead of the Yankees – that is if the game even takes place due to the latest rise in COVID-19 cases.
On Tuesday, MLB issued a statement saying the plan is to proceed with the game as scheduled, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
“To date there has been no change in the status of the event, and we hope to have the option to play,” the statement read. “Construction is continuing and we are following all CDC and state protocols regarding recommended safety practices, including social distancing, washing hands, and temperature checks before arriving to the site. Safeguarding public health is our top priority.”
Pandemic caused the change
The reason the Bombers won’t play in this much-anticipated game is due to the limited travel amid the coronavirus pandemic.
With teams now playing a 60-game schedule, squads will be staying closer to home than ever – meaning east coast teams will face mainly east teams and the same will go for the west.
If you are a fan of the movie “Field of Dreams,” this game has been on your radar since it was announced last August.
The Cards-White Sox game is to be held at the diamond in Dyersville, Iowa, where the movie “Field of Dreams” was filmed in 1988.
With just an 8,000-person capacity, this game was one hot ticket when it was first announced. Now, it’s unclear if fans will be allowed to attend if the game when it takes place.
