NBA Play-In Tournament 2022 Schedule & Playoff Teams’ Championship Odds
The NBA Playoffs teams have officially been decided after Sunday’s slate helped determine seeds and which teams would participate in the NBA Play-In tournament. There are eight teams set to compete this week in hopes of playing their way into the playoffs. Four higher-seeded teams await first-round opponents. Read on for the upcoming tournament schedule along with the latest NBA Championship odds for all playoff teams!
How does the NBA Play-In Tournament 2022 work?
It’s been another wild NBA season! Who would have thought Lebron and the Lakers wouldn’t make the postseason, or that KD and the Nets would be fighting for their lives to get into the NBA Playoffs? However, the Nets are among the eight teams on this week’s schedule competing for just that. A win and they’re in, but a loss could make things tougher for Brooklyn.
The NBA Play-In Tournament 2022 also features the Charlotte Hornets, Atlanta Hawks, and Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference. The Western Conference has the Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, and New Orleans Pelicans.
So how’s it all work? In one game, the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds play. The winner of that matchup in the West becomes the No. 7 seed and takes on the No. 2 seed Memphis Grizzlies in the first round. In the East, the winner of that No. 7 vs. No. 8 game also earns the No. 7 seed and takes on the No. 2 Boston Celtics.
Another game features the No. 9 and No. 10 seeds playing. The loser is eliminated from contention. The winner takes on the loser of that No. 7 vs. No. 8 battle. The loser of that game is eliminated, while the winner becomes the No. 8 seed.
NBA Play-In Tournament schedule of games
TNT brings a doubleheader on Tuesday night, as Kevin Durant and Brooklyn tip things off against Darius Garland and the Cleveland Cavs, followed by the Minnesota Timberwolves vs. LA Clippers. On Wednesday, ESPN takes over for the next doubleheader of play-in games.
Eastern Conference:
(7) Brooklyn Nets (-8) vs. (8) Cleveland Cavaliers – TUES 4/12 at 7 pm ET on TNT
(Winner is No. 7 seed, plays Boston Celtics)
(9) Atlanta Hawks (-4.5) vs. (10) Charlotte Hornets – WED 4/13 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN
(Loser is eliminated; Winner plays the loser of Cavs-Nets for No. 8 seed)
Western Conference:
(7) Minnesota Timberwolves (-3.5) vs. (8) LA Clippers – TUES 4/12 at 9:30 pm ET on TNT
(Winner is No. 7 seed, plays Memphis Grizzlies)
(9) New Orleans Pelicans (-5.5) vs. (10) San Antonio Spurs – WED 4/13 at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
(Loser is eliminated; Winner plays the loser of Clippers-Wolves for No. 8 seed)
NBA Playoff Picture & Championship Odds
Along with the teams outlined in the NBA Play-In Tournament schedule above, there are 12 teams already locked into playoff spots, including the top-seeded Miami Heat in the East and Phoenix Suns in the West.
The Milwaukee Bucks are the defending champions, looking to repeat in 2022. There’s also Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, who may not have looked like a threat recently, but could be contenders based on previous playoff experience.
