Tom Brady Returning to NFL? TB12’s Former Bucs Teammate Suggests ‘Anything’s Possible’

Former teammates of Tom Brady are expressing their belief that he may come out of retirement, despite his repeated statements that the previous NFL season was his last. Brady announced his retirement in February after an illustrious career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots. That included winning seven Super Bowls and solidifying himself as one of the league’s all-time legends, if not the greatest of all time.

While Brady has seemingly shut the door on coming back to the game, one of his former teammates believes Tom Brady returning to NFL action is a legit possibility.

Tom Brady’s former teammate addresses NFL return potential

During an episode of The Richard Sherman Podcast, Antoine Winfield Jr., who played alongside Tom Brady in the Buccaneers, shared his thoughts. Winfield suggested that the team is actively trying to persuade Brady to return to the field.

He stated, “I’m sure we’re still reaching out to him trying to see if he’s trying to come back to the team. Hey, it could happen. Anything’s possible.”

Winfield’s comments were met with agreement from Sherman, who acknowledged Brady’s unpredictability, and Winfield added, “It’s up in the air, man.”

Brady returned after bowing out in this past year’s NFL Playoffs, as he and the Bucs had a disappointing exit. However, he left the playing field with seven championship rings during his illustrious career.

Many believed he would ultimately move on to the commentary booth after signing a lucrative deal with FOX Sports. Last month, Brady reiterated his intention to begin working with the network in 2024.

Where will Brady return to play in NFL?

While no concrete evidence supports these claims, it is worth considering Brady’s history. He previously retired and then un-retired, a pattern reminiscent of Hall-of-Famer Brett Favre. Occurrences with quarterbacks going back and forth on their retirement decisions are not unprecedented in the NFL.

If Brady were to make a comeback, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be the most likely destination. Not only is he familiar with the team’s system, but he would likely regain his position as the starting quarterback, as Tampa Bay is currently facing a quarterback competition between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask.

As of this writing, the Bucs are still long shots to win the Super Bowl without Brady. They’re at +6000 on Fanduel’s Super Bowl odds, which puts them just below Brady’s other former team, the New England Patriots (+5500).

Brady has achieved superstar fame over his storied career, including multiple cover appearances on the Madden NFL video game. That included the Madden 21 dual cover alongside his possible heir apparent, Patrick Mahomes, who won his second Super Bowl with the Chiefs this past season.

Nevertheless, despite all the Tom Brady returning to NFL speculation, it is important to note that he’s shown no indication of wanting to return. As it stands, he is a free agent and technically free to sign with any team. For now, it seems that Brady is enjoying his retirement, leaving his fans and former teammates to wonder about the possibility of his return to the game.
