World Series Odds 2026 Update: Futures Market Heats Up As Spring Training Begins
Baseball is officially back! With the NFL wrapping up its season following Seattle’s Super Bowl 60 win over the New England Patriots, it is time start focusing on the boys of summer.
Spring training opened for pitchers and catchers on Monday, February 9, and with the first gloves popping and bats cracking under the Arizona and Florida sun, sportsbooks have already posted fresh World Series futures odds. For bettors and baseball fans alike, this is the perfect time to look beyond the box scores and start sizing up which teams could be spraying champagne come October.
Not surprisingly, the Los Angeles Dodgers (+220) sit atop the board as the early favorites – and for good reason. Their deep roster, star power, and consistent postseason presence make them the team everyone expects to be there come October. But as history reminds us every year, baseball rarely follows the script.
As a gambler, jumping on the Dodgers doesn’t interest me. Not because they can’t win another World Series, but at +220, those odds are way too low to draw interest. I see plenty of teams capable of pulling an October Surprise this fall – with much better odds.
Let’s break down the way-too-early list of teams that are favored to win, and which teams could amaze us in 2026.

🎯 Long-Shot Teams That Could Surprise
Every season delivers at least one “where did THEY come from?” playoff story. A few clubs worth a speculative sprinkle for us include:
Detroit Tigers (+2200) – Young pitching, improving lineup depth, and momentum from last season make Detroit an intriguing mid-tier value play. If their arms stay healthy, they could crash the postseason party. While the Tarik Skubal long-term deal saga continues, adding lefty Framber Valdez and resigning longtime star Justin Verlander to the fold this offseason has made the Tigers the clear-cut favorites to win the AL Central. I love this team at +2200!
Kansas City Royals (+3300) – Not flashy, but scrappy. Their athletic roster and emerging pitching talent make them a team that can outperform expectations over 162 games. Will they win the World Series? Most likely not. However, who had money on the Patriots to win the AFC this year? That’s my point! Sometimes, a very small wager on a team with odds as high as +3300 is worth the risk.
Baltimore Orioles (+2200) — They added Pete Alonzo – that’s huge. Now, if Jackson Holliday and Gunnar Henderson can continue to grow, this team will post a lot of runs. The reason their odds are still so high is the pitching staff.
Tampa Bay Rays (+8000) – Never count them out. I’ve learned this firsthand! I don’t know how they do it, but Tampa always finds a way to compete at a high level, no matter what experts believe in the preseason. Limited payroll, unlimited creativity — they always seem to manufacture wins where others can’t.
World Series Odds 2026: Favorites Not to Overlook
While the Dodgers may be grabbing the early headlines, a few traditional powerhouses sitting just behind them on the odds board deserve serious attention from futures bettors. Especially when you consider that LA is a horrible 2/1 favorite.
When I say “horrible,” I mean no matter how great they look on paper, the MLB season is long – and at just 2/1 odds, it’s not the smartest investment money-wise.
However, these three favorites are also stacked, and their odds are much better!
New York Yankees (+1000) – Star power, financial muscle, and postseason expectations never change in the Bronx. If their lineup stays healthy and the pitching rotation finds consistency, the Yankees absolutely have the ceiling of a championship club. Resigning Cody Bellinger was huge for the Bombers. Just the fact that they are +1000 and are second in line as favorites makes me want to get some early money on New York. This team has the talent to win it all, and I love those odds!
Atlanta Braves (+1400) – Atlanta remains one of baseball’s most balanced teams year after year. Strong lineup depth, quality starting pitching, and playoff experience make them a very dangerous October opponent — and a tempting futures ticket.
New York Mets (+1400) – Talent has never been the issue in Queens. If the Mets get steady pitching and avoid the injury bug, they have enough offensive firepower to make a legitimate World Series run.
